Basic course in cross-country skiing

In 2024, we will offer the course on two occasions, February 9-11 and March 8-10. The March course is fully booked.

Under the guidance of experienced guides, you will learn ski technique and mountain safety. We practice trip planning, navigation and go through what equipment is suitable in the winter mountains. At the end of the course, you should have enough knowledge to go on short or long trips on your own. The course starts on Friday at lunchtime and ends on Sunday afternoon.

This course is for those who want to learn to ski touring, gain knowledge to be able to make their own tours in the future, and go with a guide for increased safety and added value. The course is held in Swedish.

Prerequisites: You should be in good physical condition and able to perform physical activity for several hours a day for several days.

If you need to rent ski equipment, you can do so at our sports department, pre-book by emailing sporten@valadalen.se. You have a 40% discount on the rent as a participant in the course. The course fee includes the loan of a windsock, shovel and first aid kit.

Course structure:

Friday
After lunch together, we go through the equipment and later in the afternoon we go out on the touring skis to practice walking and riding techniques. The evening ends with a 3-course dinner.

Saturday
After breakfast, we will go through tour planning and navigation and participants will then make a plan for the day’s tour. We go out on a full-day trip where we practice navigation and route selection, riding techniques and mountain safety. We have lunch and coffee outside and end the day with a 3-course dinner.

Sunday
The last day is spent outdoors where we deepen our knowledge and focus on navigation and safety. We are back at the mountain station at about 14:00 for a joint conclusion and evaluation.

Detailed program and equipment list will be sent out about two weeks before the course starts.

The package includes:
