Rent an electric car from E-go

E-go rental car

The car-sharing company E-go is now being launched in Södra Årefjällen and Åre. Visitors and locals can book, rent and drop off electric cars at several central hubs in the resorts.

About E-go

E-go is a start-up car sharing company that has 100% electric cars in its fleet. The company focuses on car sharing in places with a lot of tourism. After a successful launch on Gotland this summer, E-go is now being established in Södra Årefjällen and Åre.

– People want to travel sustainably but still have the flexibility to move around the place they are visiting. With access to smart car sharing on site, tourists can travel more climate-smart without compromising on the experience. At the same time, it helps to build a car-sharing infrastructure that local people can also use,” says Johan Granath, CEO and founder of E-go.

The launch takes place during the fall break week in collaboration with Södra Årefjällen Economic Association. E-gos electric cars will be available for pick-up and drop-off at several central hubs in Södra Årefjällen and Åre, enabling visitors to make day trips and get more out of their journey. The electric cars can be rented both by the hour and by the day. It is also possible to leave the car at a different location than where it was picked up.

– Many visitors to Åre want to make day trips to Södra Årefjällen, not least since Vålådalen opened its pre-season trails for cross-country skiing in mid-October. It is positive that more opportunities to move between Åre and Södra Årefjällen are opening up for visitors who have come here without their own car,” says Therese Sjölundh, CEO of Åre Destination.

Södra Årefjällen Economic Association has been working for a couple of years to reduce car dependency for visitors and local residents in the resort. The possibility to rent a car through E-go is one of several services that help increase mobility for visitors arriving without a car, while it can also be an option for local residents who want to travel in a more climate-friendly way.

– We want to increase the service for visitors and residents in Södra Årefjällen while contributing our part in the climate transition. “An important part of reducing the climate impact of the tourism industry is to make it easier for visitors to arrive by train and thus reduce the number of long car journeys across the country,” says Per-Ivar Persson, project manager at Södra Årefjällen ekonomisk förening.

During the year, pilots of car sharing and home deliveries were launched. This summer also saw the start of a trial of on-demand transport through the Mountain Experience bus, which will continue to run during the winter season.

– The mountain experience bus has helped to improve the possibilities for visitors to get between the train station and the accommodation facilities. But many of our visitors also ask for day-trip opportunities, which may be one reason why they choose to drive here. With the possibility of renting an electric car on site, we connect the villages in Södra Årefjällen and Åre for visitors who take the train here, says Catarina Seiler, booking manager at Vålådalen Mountain Station.

Initially, five electric cars will be available for rental in Södra Årefjällen and Åre. Cars can be picked up and dropped off at several locations in Södra Årefjällen and Åre, including near the train station in Undersåker and at several accommodation facilities in the resorts. The number of electric cars will be gradually increased during the season to meet the demand from visitors and local residents.

The electric cars are booked through the E-go app, which is available for download in Appstore for iPhone and Google Play for Android. It can also be booked through E-gos online booking. The app allows you to see where cars are available and to pre-book a car if necessary.
